Summary
Abstract
The preservation of historical and cultural heritage sites is a pressing issue both in global practice and in the Republic of Belarus. Typically, it involves the collection, analysis, and processing of historical data, technical condition surveys, as well as planning and execution of repairs, conservation, and restoration. However, the most effective approach is to complement classical methodologies with information modeling technologies, including laser scanning to obtain a point cloud that accurately reflects the complex geometry of a structure, and enabling the creation of a unified source of information about the object throughout its entire life cycle based on a digital information model. Using detailed examples of several architectural monuments, including those in Belarus, the authors present the results of their technical assessment employing information technologies. The obtained results can be used to create a digital repository of historical and cultural heritage sites for the purpose of effective management and preservation for future generations.
